On arrival for this interview, Flavia Oketcho, in faded blue jeans and a matching top, emerges without any make-up and promises to return in exactly 10 minutes.
?You know I am not the make-up type. Wait here and I will be back in 10 minutes,? Oketcho says before diving into her family home which boasts a neat green compound.
She returns more than an hour later dressed in a black dress, pink earrings, multi-coloured necklace, lots of lipstick and blue high-heeled shoes.
Holding her one-year-old baby ? Chantelle ? in one hand, Oketcho clearly looks so different from the player seen every other week hustling opponents for the ball .
?When I had Chantelle, it wasn?t so hard adjusting because she is a part of me I love so much. It?s a whole new world.
?I actually started jogging six weeks after birth and could play in one-and-a-half months. Life was only a continuation.? Flanked by her fianc?e Chizzo Lubega, a musician she met three years ago, she also speaks openly about her love for basketball and music. And the start of what got her to KCC Leopards now was never a Sunday evening walk in the park.
?I used to watch my cousin Ox (Wilbrod Okecho) play and gained interest,? Flirsh Flavia, like her Facebook profile reads, says. Okecho (RIP), a former DMark Power star, dominated the local league with size something that should have kept the much shorter and lightweight lady away.

Many people often told her: you are not for basketball. You are not so tall. ?If I want something, I will go for it and I did. ?First time I played was at Kitante and I was so excited. I came 15 minutes late and the coach then called Mr. Mubiru turned me away.

?It?s not because I didn?t have game, I was regarded as young.? In her senior three, Flavia, then 15, joined Lady Bucks. Eight months on in 2001, Flavia never got a chance to play. ?As a new kid on the block, the coach had to respect the older players.
?I later got on in a game for about 40 seconds towards the end of the season but didn?t touch the ball; just run up and down the court.? Lady Bucks won seven league titles before folding last year. Flavia was part of the record champions in three of their winning seasons.
Attention from men came in handy and Flavia has a livid response to it. ?I am not easily flattered. I get so many hits but treat most of them like brothers and laugh it off. I get very bold with that,? she laughs loudly like on so many occasions during the interview. Six years after her league debut, Uganda Christian University (UCU) offered Flavia a sports scholarship which she accepted and played for them as she pursued a degree in Mass Communication.
UCU entered the league as Lady Canons and won their first title in 2008 with Flavia emerging most valuable player. Upon completion of her undergraduate course, she joined KCC Leopards, a rival team where she went on to win another crown in 2009. She again won the MVP award that year.
?I have been lucky to have good teammates and the bonding goes beyond the court. A Sunday barbecue, watching movies and chatting makes it easier with the basketball.? Players choose numbers and Flavia has a curious reason as to why she opted for four (4) which is inscribed in Chizzo?s haircut. ?No one recognizes number 4 because even when they give out trophies, they give to one, two and three. So people don?t know that I am the silent killer.
It (the 4) even looks cute on Chizzo?s head.? Being into music and basketball, the two love birds are a good meal for the gossip columns. ?It?s easier to love the attention than dealing with it,? she says. Chizzo has an even bolder response.
?The best way to deal with tabloids is being open. Most of the time, they aren?t right.? Together, they also manage Fast Lane Crew, an entertainment company, which handles musicians, dancers, video editors, music equipment and does events. ?He always watches me train and attends all my games. I love it. We have a relationship where he pushes me a lot to go to the gym to do strength, speed and to jog daily.?
They have built a bond to easily include Louis Lubega, 10, a son Chizzo fathered from a previous affair. As they speak about music, the affection for MoTown and Soul Music is profound. No wonder, Flavia first fell in love with Chizzo?s voice. On an evening in 2008, there was a lot of Monday evening traffic in the city so she opted to loosen up at the now defunct Chi Bar on Lumumba Avenue.
?My friend Bebe Cool (a local musician) introduced him as ?this is Chizzo from the UK!? They played a game of pool.
The lady won the game and the conversation stretched into basketball with Chizzo disputing her ability mainly due to her 5ft 6? frame. ?I invited him to watch me the next day and he brought me lucozade and chocolate. That was sweet.? They even went for a shoot around as they drew ever closer. ?I challenged him to shoot five from the free throw line facing the rim while I shot 10 looking away from him. I won. ? I then opted to shoot from outside the arc while he shot from inside and I still beat him. He is improving though.?
The love for music perhaps ticked all the boxes. ?First time I heard Chizzo sing, his voice stood out and I am not saying that because of what we are today.?
Flavia, 25, a Japhadholar from the eastern district of Tororo, was the only child of his mother Edith Jamwa. Her father Alexander Okello Oketcho died when she was only seven. She admits to having grown up with lots of aunties through her years at Nakasero, Nabbingo and Kitante Primary schools in addition to Kitante Hill School and Makerere College.
?The reason I accepted to do this interview is to use it as an inspiration for all the young people. There is press waiting to see us do bad things even when they don?t happen but I have learnt to live with it.?
Flavia is hyper while Chizzo is the ?cooling stone? and ?it works well that way?, they both agree.
?The hardest time comes when she has to go away then I work in the night since that?s the time to put music out there,? he says.
?Music is my life. It?s the only thing I have known all my life,? Chizzo, the first of the five children born to Fred Matovu and Rose Wadda of Masaka, adds.
Wedding bells will knock sometime next year. ?He has to propose first,? she warns. ?Even when he first came to me, I had to make him run around a bit. My motto is never give up.?

WASHINGTON (Reuters) ? Urgent efforts to avoid an unprecedented U.S. debt default suffered a new blow on Thursday when some fiscally hardline Republicans blocked a budget deficit plan proposed by their own congressional leaders.
After hours of trying to get enough votes, the Republicans who control the House of Representatives put off action for the night and scheduled an emergency meeting for Friday morning.
The Republican infighting further delays any compromise with Democrats to stop the countdown toward Tuesday when the government says it will run out of money to pay all its bills.
Lawmakers must lift the government's $14.3 trillion borrowing limit by August 2 or risk a devastating default and downgrade of the top-notch credit rating that helps make U.S. debt a pillar of the global financial system.
There was speculation House Speaker John Boehner, the top Republican in Congress, may revise his plan to attract more votes from rebels who want bigger cuts in spending than the roughly $900 billion over 10 years he has proposed.
"Republicans have taken us to the brink of economic chaos," House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi said. "The delay must end now so we can focus on the American people's top priority: creating jobs and growing the economy."
Even if it passes, the Boehner bill is certain to be killed in the Democratic-controlled Senate but could still feature in any possible compromise. Boehner's difficulties in securing votes weakens his bargaining position, Democrats said.
Investors, unnerved by the risk of a U.S. default or downgrade, are watching anxiously.
The dollar sank to a fresh four-month low against the yen and Asian stocks struggled after the announcement that the House would not vote on Thursday evening.
In U.S. trading earlier on Thursday, the stock market's broad S&P 500 index fell for a fourth day and interest rates soared on some Treasury bills that mature in August.
In a strongly worded commentary, China's state-run news agency Xinhua criticized U.S. lawmakers for flirting with a disastrous default, saying the world's largest economy has been "kidnapped" by "dangerously irresponsible" politics.
No policymakers in China, the largest foreign creditor to the United States, have commented on the crisis but Xinhua said "the ugliest part of the saga is that the well-being of many other countries is also in the impact zone.
International Monetary Fund chief Christine Lagarde warned of the risks if Congress fails to act.
"One of the consequences could be a decline of the dollar as a reserve currency and a dent in people's confidence in the dollar," Lagarde told PBS NewsHour in an interview.
U.S. financial executives added their voices to calls from the business community for Congress to strike a deal.
ARM-TWISTING
Boehner has been grappling with lawmakers such as Mick Mulvaney, a supporter of the Tea Party movement that represents a new force on the Republican right flank.
"I'm still a no," Mulvaney said as he left Boehner's office to pray at the congressional chapel before the vote was canceled for the night.
Republicans changed procedural rules to allow them to bring up the bill for a vote quickly on Friday.
Many Americans are outraged that Washington cannot reach a deal after many weeks of polarized and acrimonious debate.
There were increasing calls by some Democrats for President Barack Obama to raise the debt ceiling on his own by invoking the 14th Amendment of the Constitution -- a clause dating from the Civil War era of the 1860s that the U.S. public debt "shall not be questioned."
The White House has resisted taking such a step.
Some wavering Republican House members were insisting on tying a debt limit increase to passage of a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution, according to a Republican aide.
The Senate rejected such an approach last week.
Even if a deal is reached to lift the debt ceiling, a downgrade of the U.S. credit rating is likely unless a big dent is made in the deficit. A downgrade would raise borrowing costs, hurt an already weak economy and rattle global markets.
Once the House acts one way or the other, action will move to the Democratic-controlled Senate. Boehner's plan is doomed in the Senate, where Democratic Leader Harry Reid is pushing his own deficit reduction plan.
But after both chambers have their say, frantic talks are expected this weekend to seek a compromise to permit a vote on raising the debt ceiling and staving off a default on Tuesday.
"I think there will be a whole new stage of the Senate and House having to come together to avoid August 2nd as being a day that has never happened in the U.S.," White House chief of staff William Daley told CNN.
Republican leaders were engaged in arm-twisting as they tried to secure the 217 votes needed to pass the Boehner bill in the House and avoid a humiliating defeat.
A stream of lawmakers who had decided to vote against the plan came and went from Boehner's office. Whatever was said did not seem to be changing many minds.
Republican Representatives Louie Gohmert and Joe Walsh said they would still vote against the bill. Trent Franks and Jeff Flake would not say where they stood.
ON TENTERHOOKS
Boehner's plan for about $900 billion in cuts is twinned with a short-term debt ceiling increase. Lawmakers would have to come up with further spending cuts to raise the debt ceiling again in several months -- just as the campaign heats up for congressional and presidential elections in November 2012.
Reid's plan, backed by Obama, would cut $2.2 trillion from the deficit over 10 years without raising taxes and extend the debt ceiling through next year.
At the White House, Obama and his team also worked late into the evening to avert a default that would scar his presidency, no matter who was at fault, as he prepares to ask Americans for a new four-year term in 2012.
Despite the gridlock, Congress could kick into higher gear as pressure to reach a deal mounts before Tuesday.
"The markets are going to be on tenterhooks until we get an understanding of what the quality of the package is," said Kevin Caron, market strategist at Stifel, Nicolaus & Co.
White House senior adviser Valerie Jarrett told Reuters Insider the Treasury secretary would face very difficult decisions if the deadline is not met.
"Do we say to our servicemen and women serving abroad that we're not going to pay them and support their families? Do we say to the 70 million, 80 million people who receive Social Security that we're not going to pay them?" she said. "Or small businesses who are vendors of the United States government?"

NEW YORK (Reuters) ? Consumer confidence edged higher in July as jitters over the outlook eased, though consumers remained gloomy about their current situations, according to a private sector report released on Tuesday.
The Conference Board, an industry group, said its index of consumer attitudes rose to 59.5 from a downwardly revised 57.6 the month before. Economists had expected a reading of 56.0, according to a Reuters poll.
June's figure was originally reported as 58.5.
The expectations index rose to 75.4 from 71.6.
Worries about the labor market continued to weigh on consumers, however, and the present situation index fell to its lowest level since February at 35.7 from 36.6.
"Overall, consumers remain apprehensive about the future, but some of the concern expressed last month has abated," Lynn Franco, director of the Conference Board Consumer Research Center, said in a statement.
Consumers' labor market assessment worsened. The number of respondents saying they found "jobs hard to get" rose to 44.1 percent from 43.2 percent the month before, while the "jobs plentiful" category held steady at 5.1 percent.
Consumers also felt better about price increases with expectations for inflation in the coming 12 months falling to 5.7 percent from 6 percent. It was also the lowest level since February.

The economy grew only 1.9 percent in the January-March quarter, and some analysts forecast growth was even slower in the April-June period.
Employers have responded by cutting back sharply on hiring. The economy added only 18,000 net jobs in June, the second straight month of dismal job gains. That's far below the average of 215,000 net jobs per month in the February-April period. The unemployment rate rose to 9.2 percent, the highest this year.
Economists have attributed much of the slowdown to temporary factors, such as a spike in gas prices this spring. Manufacturing output also declined after Japan's March 11 earthquake disrupted global supply chains.
Many economists expect growth to pick up later this year as those factors fade. Gas prices, for example, averaged $3.68 a gallon on Wednesday, down from their peak of nearly $4 in early May.
But concerns are also rising that the economy's weakness will persist. Goldman Sachs on Friday cut its estimate for growth in the July-September period to 2.5 percent from an earlier estimate of 3.25 percent. Also last week, JPMorgan reduced its estimate to 2.5 percent from 3 percent.
Goldman Sachs cited extremely weak consumer demand as one factor behind its reduced forecast. Goldman also said in a research note that it is "still unsure about the precise reasons for the slowdown" this year. Rachel Uchitel has repaid much of the money Tiger Woods paid her to keep quiet in the aftermath of their affair, and may sue Gloria Allred as a result.
Huh? Relax. It's even more confusing than you think.
In early 2010, Allred negotiated a $10 million settlement for Rachel, who had planned to hold a news conference and detail her relationship with Tiger.
The mammoth payoff included a confidentiality agreement, which prohibited Rachel Uchitel from talking about Tiger. Ever. Here's where it gets dicey:
The confidentiality clause works the way you think it does. If Rachel spoke about Tiger, she'd have to pay back the money, as well as potential damages.
Several months ago, Tiger's lawyer, Jay Lavely, contacted Gloria regarding Rachel's appearance on Celebrity Rehab, saying they planned to sue over it.
While she never talked specifically about Tiger on the VH1 show, Uchitel's reality show treatment "addiction to love" royally pissed off Woods' camp.
Rachel felt strongly she had not violated the agreement, but Gloria convinced her she would lose if Tiger's attorney pursued the case against her.
That's when Gloria struck a deal with Lavely, an agreement in which Rachel would return the bulk of the money in exchange for Woods not suing.
But here's the thing. Because Gloria allegedly made a deal, she would still get all of her attorney's fees. Rachel thus believes Gloria sold her out.
By striking a deal in which Rachel gave Tiger's money back, Gloria would get paid, whereas if Rachel went to arbitration and lost, she would not.
Rachel went along with it at first, but now feels she got screwed and has hired another lawyer who is gearing up to sue the pants off of Gloria.
Her demand is simple: Either pay Rachel what she gave back or get sued for legal malpractice. She's given her a deadline, supposedly. Stay tuned.
