Pregnancy Photos For A Healthy Family and A Healthy World | ecomom ...

Photographer Laura Zander recently contacted us to share her thoughts on green photography, which I?m happy to pass on below. Visit her site and learn more about her work with pregnant moms.

I know I?ve seen a portrait of my ancestor as an infant in 1880 but no where can I find more than a snapshot of my Mom pregnant in 1980. Since then, maternity photography has become more popular as we celebrate the baby bump. Its thought of as documenting the experience for what it is, unique and beautiful. When you look back, you?ll want to see the best representation of your pregnancy curves and have the experience portrayed in a way that you are proud to share ? many photographers even offer ?Belly to Baby? options. Generally around 32 weeks is the ideal time for a maternity session because you usually feel the best. If you are feeling a little camera shy, treat yourself to a salon & spa day or have one of your own at home. There are so many wonderful skin-care products out there for both you and baby ? and Ecomom.com certainly carries an awesome variety. Forty weeks only sounds like forever, but it really lasts just a short time?.from the first kicks in your belly to the first kicks in the world outside.

That said, I believe that being eco-conscious is a necessary investment in our future. I do my best to support other local or small businesses, build relationships within my community and raise awareness on how important (and how easy) it is to be greener. As a photographer, I?m always trying to find ways to be more eco-friendly ? and I?m not alone!? Many photographers are digital. Digital photography does more than make the process quicker than traditional photography ? it also saves on unecessary prints, harsh developing chemicals and excess materials. Often photographers have you view online proofs before deciding which ones to print. Green photographers go further by using rechargeable batteries, non-toxic inks, recycled and post-consumer waste paper, LED and CFL bulbs, and encourage recycling. Ask potential photographers about their green practices to see if they are the right fit for your values.
