So, how exactly does a person grow or build his e-mail list? Here are a few tips to help you build your list.
The first rule of building a good e-mail list is to give the list subscribers useful information. The reason that so many Internet marketers fail at building good lists is not that they do not take action; it is that what they give to their subscribers isn?t worthwhile. If a person decides to share her information with you, she expects to get something good in return for it. For example, let?s say that you are building a newsletter about training dogs. In order to better serve the people who subscribe to your newsletter, you need to give them good and unique content regularly. If your plan is to simply rehash the same information over and over again, the people on your list will eventually figure it out and un-subscribe. This is why it is good to focus on sending out good information that you have actually worked hard to put together. Creating targeted and relevant information does not have to be a big deal. At the same time, however, it is not very easy either. You will need to plan on working diligently to gather the greatest information to give to the people who subscribe on your list. If you want to be able to do this then you need to stay current with your niche and publish new information that your subscribers will be able to appreciate.
Here is a very important tip if you want to increase your subscription numbers: publish your privacy policy right on your website and put a link to that page right next to or below your opt-in form. The reason you want to do this is to calm any fears that you will sell or share personal information with spammers; the rate of spamming is so high that people are hesitant about sharing e-mail addresses unless you can promise they won?t be spammed. Nobody wants to be bombarded by e-mail spam. Having a visible privacy policy that is easy to find and read will make your prospective subscribers feel a lot safer about sharing their e-mail addresses with you. You need to add a note that will implicitly state that you will not be sharing, renting or selling their e-mail addresses. Taking this one simple step will carry you really far and help you build your list.
This may sound a little strange but you should also include a ?sign up? link in your newsletter. If you?re using a plan text newsletter, then make sure you have this link at the end of it. This probably seems like it is pushing the point too far but it will help you out later when your subscribers share your newsletter with others or reprint it on their websites. It?s just a smart way to take advantage of the opportunities that come your way through your subscribers.
It takes a lot of patience and hard work to build a solid e-mail list. So use the above tips to enhance your list building campaign and get the most out of it.
